In an era when stores sell ‘lifestyles’ to go with your jeans and when you can get a head-to-toe identity with your American Apparel body suit – Aubrey Shepherd is a stand out. In this photo essay you will see a gorgeous girl with doe eyes and a perfect model’s figure, what you don’t see is the part where she showed up to the photo shoot toting her own wardrobe bags and hat boxes full of vintage finds, tupperware containers of jewelry from the 50’s and 60’s, and a self made style glued together from scraps of bygone glamour. Aubery Shepherd is an original.
These photos were shot by Seattle photographer Niffer Calderwood. Niffer is known for her photographs of musicians on stage and off. A stroll through Ms. Calderwood’s portfolio will remind you of the blood pumping euphoria of live music and loud guitars. While the pairing seems unlikely, Niffer may just be the perfect photographer to capture Aubery Shepherd’s unique look. Their mutual rock and roll connections are a tangle of the who’s who of Seattle rock royalty (for example, Aubrey’s uncle is “Soundgarden” bass player Ben Shepherd, her boyfriend Zache Davis is a Maniac vocalist and bass player). We met in an auto shop on a grungy street on the southern outskirts of Seattle. The juxtaposition of Aubrey’s delicate, vintage beauty against the rebuilt hulks of old muscle cars was magic. Stay tuned to Miroir magazine for the full photoshoot.
