Christian Bazant-Hegemark

Miroir Magazine would like to give a warm welcome to our new contributing writer Christian Bazant-Hegemark.______
After working as a video game programmer at a sub-division of Rockstar Games for six years on a variety of blockbuster adaptations (GTA, Max Payne, Manhunt etc), Christian Bazant-Hegemark  studied painting with Daniel Richter, Harun Farocki and Gunter Damisch at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna (2006-2011, diploma with honors).

Since 2011 he is writing his PhD thesis on contemporary painting (Elisabeth von Samsonow), holding lectures on contemporary painting’s canonization dynamics at the Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm and the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna. Bazant-Hegemark co-organizes one of Vienna’s major independent art spaces ‘mo.ë’, on whose 800m²/2600ft² he curated the biggest non-institutionalized exhibition on Austrian emerging painters in 2011. It is at the same space that he hosts biweekly artist talks and curates a variety of solo shows focusing contemporary painters.

Bazant-Hegemark’s work has been shown at solo exhibitions in Vienna, Leipzig, Düsseldorf, Salzburg, Brno, Paris, Rio and Seattle, with artist residencies done in Spain, Austria, USA, Brazil and Finland. Bazant-Hegemark received five national art awards since 2010. He is represented by Galerie FREY Contemporary Vienna/Salzburg (Austria) and Galerie Voss Düsseldorf (Germany).
