Q: How long have you been an artist? Please tell us a little about your chosen medium.

A: My early works were inspired by the painting style of my late dad, the noted Ibarra Dela Rosa. I inherited his penchant for strong color combination in rendering my landscapes, flowers and trees. As years passed, I slowly departed from my his style and started exploring the impressionist technique. My subjects widened from landscapes to gardens, churches, portraits, and human figures. The surrealist artist Mariana Palova has been actively pursuing her love of art since age seventeen. She studied art and design at the Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes. She is now an Illustrator at Flamel Stone, and a graphic designer at Thubten Dhargye Ling.

Miroir: What inspired VALT?

Kat Ferneyhough: There are several alternative fashion events occurring around the globe, and upon deciding to move to the west coast, we found it surprising that a city as creative and unique as Vancouver didn’t already have one. After years of operating as an event coordinator for art exhibitions, mini music festivals, and fashion shows myself, plus Kat Kozak’s experience documenting and managing events as well, it seemed only natural to develop one here together.
